Listening — 15%

Discussion – 15%

Midterm – 10%

Final Exam – 15%

  • Plagiarism is considered a serious disciplinary offence; if you are caught plagiarising in your assignment, you will be failed.

  • The same is cheating in quizzes and examinations.

  • For the evaluation of presentation, discussion, and assignments, see the guideline, below:

Guideline on the Evaluation of Presentation + Essay and Discussion

Presentation + Essay

  1. Every student has to make at least 4 oral presentations (depending on the total number of students enrolled). The topics are to be selected on Moodle, by September 22, 5.00 pm.

  1. The duration of a presentation must be between 8–10 min, excluding Q&A (approx. 2 min). Overtime by 1 min = -10 points.

  1. Presenters cannot use visual aid and notes.

  1. Every presenter is to submit an essay, written in Arabic, on the topic s/he chose, two days before the day of the scheduled presentation (that is, by 4.00 pm, Wednesday). Late submission will not be accepted

  1. The assessment of presentation (25%) rides on both the performance of a presenter (mainly, clarity and audience’s feedback) and his/her essay. Without submission of essay, presentation is not to be evaluated.

  1. Every essay should be an original piece of writing (that is, all essays are to go through plagiarism check) and more than 500 words.

  1. Essays should be submitted as Word files via email to the course orgainser (isu@nccu.edu.tw). Essay files should be named after the presenters’ Chinese names and include the titles in the documents

Discussion

Audience is expected to be attentive to presentations. Every student is evaluated by his/her engagement (constructive feedback, query, or even critique) in Q&A sessions.
